You need to stay in a small area and control the heat so you don't cause a warp or break open a joint. ![]() I go back with a small pencil tip torch and heat a small area at a time and wipe off the excise with a dry shop rap. My method is after completing the soldering. I've done it several times and it cleans the solder up nicely and leaves little work to shine the brass. The brass is harder than the solder, but won't scratch the brass on the radiator as they are of equal hardness. He would make a chisel out of a piece of brass about 1/8 thick and scrape the solder off. I use a 3/8" variable speed power drill and it works very well. The black sponge material magically removes the solder as you apply light pressure while you pass the rotating wheel over the area to be cleaned. There are different colors and I think each color has a different cutting power. They come in different widths and the one I purchased is black and about 3/4" thick. The sponge disk is fitted with a central rod and can be used in a hand held drill. There is a five inch diameter round disk made of a sponge impregnated with an abrasive. You can start out with a sharp knife, being careful just to cut the bulk of the solder and not scratch the brass. I used some fine sand paper using progressively finer grit, ending up with 1200. Was able to buff off some 'splatter', but now what is left is way to think to buff. Fellow seemed to use more than enough solder, now how do I eliminate excess.
